Stirling Dynamics is recruiting a Systems Engineer to join the Systems and Safety team.


Due to upcoming projects and supporting continued growth, Stirling Dynamics is looking for talented Systems Engineers with requirements engineering and systems integration skills complimented by an aptitude in MBSE (Model Based Systems Engineering) to join our Systems & Safety team supporting key defence/military projects in the marine systems engineering domain. We are looking for both permanent employees and contractors.


Stirling Dynamics is expert at managing complex systems engineering solutions for our customers. With increasing integration of systems, complexity ensues that requires specialist techniques to ensure the outcome achieves safe and reliable results. As a systems engineer in Stirling Dynamics, you will be expected to ensure these outcomes and provide simple explanations to complex realities. MBSE is a tool to support this along with experienced and pragmatic systems engineering expertise.


This role will be predominantly based in our Bristol office with occasional travel to our clients’ sites as required. As part of our commitment to flexibility, our staff can choose to work from the Expleo offices in Preston or Derby if preferred. We will also accept hybrid working or fully remote working. 


  • As part of the Systems & Safety team, our Systems Engineers are responsible for the delivery of systems support to our business and our clients which will include activities such as:
  • Requirement generation of both primary and derived requirements
  • Integration of requirements within systems and across systems
  • MBSE (Model Based Systems Engineering)
  • System architecture development
  • Creation of technical specifications at platform, system and/or equipment level
  • Requirement management at platform, system and/or equipment level
  • Preparation and/or checking of documentation for the equipment/system design process
  • Running/supporting/attending internal/external design reviews
  • Supporting test planning activities, test analysis and documentation
  • Preparation of test reports and summary documentation


  • Candidates will ideally be degree qualified, in a related discipline


  • Ability to lead activities within a team, work package creation, management, and delivery
  • The personal qualities of the candidates will be key to success in this role which demands a self-motivated attitude, a professional approach, and good organisational skills. Candidates must be able to identify with the characteristics and qualities detailed below:

  • Candidates will ideally have knowledge/experience of civil or military aerospace related systems engineering principles, processes and standards.
  • MBSE (Model Based Systems Engineering)
  • MBSE tool(s): Enterprise Architect (EA), Cameo Systems Modeler, Rhapsody SysML
  • Platform/system/equipment design and development for marine/aerospace/weapon programmes
  • Marine/aerospace/weapon systems architecture modelling, design and development
  • CADMID life-cycle
  • Awareness of Defence Standards e.g. 00-56, 00-55, 00-51, 05-057, Mil Std e.g. 882E
  • International standards e.g. IEC 61508, IEC 62368
  • Working within a quality system environment, such as AS9100, ISO9001
