Due to a recent re-organisation, Stirling Dynamics is recruiting a Head of Operations to join the Stirling Dynamics Senior Management team.


Due to a strong orderbook, Stirling Dynamics is structuring itself for growth. To help support this, Stirling is seeking an experienced Head of Operations to lead and develop the support functions to ensure they continue to meet current and future business needs.


The Head of Operations will report directly to the Vice President and will be a member of the Senior Management team. It is an exciting role for anyone who wishes to be part of a fast-growing business and to really add value to an organisation.


Ideal candidates will be able to demonstrate the successful leadership of multi-disciplined operations teams, ideally with the following mix, however candidates without the full breadth of experience will also be considered as training will be offered where required.

Due to the nature of the role, the ability to build strong relationships with the teams under the Operation Manager’s charge, as well as the wider business stakeholders, is essential. The role will suit a hands-on person who enjoys engaging and being able to make a difference.


This role will be based in our Bristol office however as part of our commitment to flexible working, employees are able to work remotely.


Quality Assurance

  • Stirling operates a well established quality system certified to BS EN ISO 9001:2015/EN 9100:2018. The Head of Operations will be responsible for maintaining this accreditation and working with the team to continually look for ways to improve the associated company quality management system.
  • Stirling has recently acquired an EASA approved design organisation (DOA Part 21J) and is in the process of integrating the DOA entity into the Stirling quality system. The Head of Operations will be responsible for ensuring that the integration results in an optimised system that supports the needs of both the organisations.
  • Line management of Quality Assurance Officer


  • Accountable for all aspects of the Stirling facility. The premises have recently been fully refurbished to a high standard and the business is looking to maintain this for the welfare of our staff and to reflect the brand image. The scope of responsibility will include aspects such as: dealing with the landlord, service contracts, building maintenance and upkeep, legal responsibilities etc.
  • As part of our Corporate and Social Responsibilities, ensure up-to-date awareness of environmental regulation and social-economic trends to ensure the business operates (from a facilities standpoint) in a manner that seeks to minimise its environmental impact and evolve with employee needs.

Health & Safety

  • Ensure compliance to the applicable health and safety regulations at all times. Responsible for maintaining the legal register and working level policy/procedure (the H&S ‘system’) to ensure it remains robust and fit-for-purpose.
  • Specifically relating to fire protection, accountable for ensuring compliance to regulation and that all protection equipment and personnel are sufficiently maintained and trained.

Office Management

  • The office management team spans; front desk (reception), all general office duties and admin support (such as: booking of travel and co-ordinating company social events, ordering of office supplies, coordination of external meetings, management of pool cars etc.)
  • Line management of Reception staff.


  • Responsible for the leadership of the procurement team. The procurement function supports the purchasing of the Stirling product portfolio bill of materials in addition to general business purchases. Accountable for the ongoing performance as per established service level agreements.
  • Line management of Senior Buyer.


  • The ‘production’ function includes goods-in/dispatch, stores, assembly, test, throughput and resource planning/management etc. The production function is managed by the Production Controller who will report to the Head of Operations.
  • The Head of Operations will be accountable for the overall production performance and will work closely with the Production Controller to plan and realise ongoing, continuous improvements.
  • Line management of Production Controller.

It is expected that candidates can demonstrate the following:



  • Experience in an operations role at a leadership level
  • A sound understanding of formal quality systems such as ISO9001 or AS9100
  • Experience in a production environment with an appreciation of different methods and systems
  • A good understanding of Health & Safety in the workplace and the management thereof

Desirable (the following training/development can be provided for if required)

  • NEBOSH trained
  • IOSH trained
  • Lean, six sigma etc.
  • Trained quality auditor
  • Experience in the management of facilities
  • Currently holds Security Check (SC) clearance or is eligible to obtain
